Furbush to have surgery on rotator cuff

August 10th, 2016

SEATTLE -- Left-handed reliever announced on Wednesday that he will undergo surgery on the partially torn rotator cuff in his throwing arm on Tuesday. He is expecting a 12-18 month recovery.
"Right now, I think, for me, a realistic goal would be Spring Training of 2018," Furbush said. "But anything earlier than that and I'm on board."
Furbush was diagnosed with a partially torn rotator cuff in August 2015. He has tried to rehab the injury without surgery since, but he said his recovery between outings wasn't what he hoped it to be. Furbush has played in eight rehab games since July 8, two with Everett in the Class A Short-Season Northwest League and six with Triple-A Tacoma.
"I think part of me is somewhat excited to get this done," Furbush said, "just because I know now is the real road to recovery."
