T-Mobile Park goes wild for Gonzaga win

April 4th, 2021

It was one of the greatest finishes in college basketball history. With a half-second remaining on the clock and a trip to the NCAA men's basketball national championship game on the line, Gonzaga guard Jalen Suggs hit a shot from near half-court to beat UCLA in a moment sports fans will never forget.

Especially in the state of Washington. And in particular, at T-Mobile Park, where the Mariners were playing the Giants in the sixth inning Saturday night when Suggs' bankshot beat the buzzer.

The end of the thrilling Final Four contest was shown on the giant scoreboard at the ballpark, and upon the miraculous make, the T-Mobile crowd erupted in celebration. A particularly ecstatic player in the home dugout was Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales, who was drafted by the Cardinals 19th overall out of Gonzaga -- located in Spokane -- in 2013.

Gonzales had his arms raised in victory and rallied the crowd in anticipation of Gonzaga's showdown with Baylor on Monday night in Indianapolis. The Mariners are scheduled to host the White Sox on Monday night, and the hometown fans will hope they'll be able to celebrate an even greater victory -- the first national championship in Gonzaga's storied history.
