SEATTLE -- Mariners right-hander Zach Lee, a former first-round Draft pick of the Dodgers, was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Tuesday.
Lee, 24, had been designated for assignment by the Mariners on Dec. 3 to open a 40-man roster spot for free-agent reliever Marc Rzepczynski, who signed a two-year deal.
Lee was acquired by the Mariners from the Dodgers on June 19 in a trade for shortstop Chris Taylor. Lee went a combined 7-14 with a 6.14 ERA in 27 starts with Triple-A Oklahoma City and Tacoma in 2016, including going 0-9 with a 7.39 ERA in 14 starts for the Rainiers.

Lee, a Texas native, has pitched one game in the Majors, allowing seven runs on 11 hits over 4 2/3 innings in a spot start for the Dodgers against the Mets on July 25, 2015. Over six Minor League seasons, he has gone 52-55 with a 4.29 ERA in 153 games, including 149 starts.
Lee was among MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects from 2012-14, and was ranked as high as No. 45 in 2012.
