Mariners prospects break out offensively

June 30th, 2021

June 29 proved to be a banner day for the Seattle Mariners farm system, as a trio of top prospects erupted for big games across multiple levels of competition.

Seattle’s top prospect Jarred Kelenic snapped a brief 2-for-10 skid with a 3-for-5 day at the dish that featured two runs scored, his eighth home run of the Triple-A season, and an RBI. MLB Pipeline’s No. 4 overall prospect is now batting .310 with more RBIs (23) than strikeouts (19) while playing for Triple-A Tacoma, and is hitting an incredible .458 with three home runs and eight runs batted in over his past six games.

Star right fielder Julio Rodríguez showed out in his Double-A debut, going 2-for-5 and recording an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning. Rodríguez joined the Arkansas Travelers roster after not only helping the Dominican National Team qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics earlier this month, but also hitting .325 with six home runs and 21 RBIs across 28 games with High-A Everett.

Not to be outdone, Mariners No. 5 prospect Noelvi Marte, No. 83 on the Top 100, made his presence felt as Low-A Modesto vanquished Visalia by a 17-5 final score. Marte erupted with a pair of mammoth home runs in the first and seventh innings, and added a fifth inning single to finish his day 3-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Marte is now on a seven-game hitting streak whilst leading the Low-A West league with 37 runs scored. He also ranks among the league leaders in a number of other offensive categories including home runs (10, T-1st), RBI (36, T-4th), hits (54, 4th), and total bases (96, 3rd).
