SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the Mariners have signed outfielder/first baseman Rob Refsnyder to a 1-year Major League contract through the 2026 season.
“Rob has been one of the most productive hitters against left-handed pitching over the last four seasons and provides balance and impact offensively to our lineup,” said Hollander. “We are excited to welcome Rob and his family to the Mariners.”
The Mariners 40-man roster is now full at 40 players.
Refsnyder, 34, has played 10 Major League seasons including each of the last four with the Boston Red Sox. The right-handed hitting outfielder/first baseman has played for the New York Yankees (2015-17), Toronto Blue Jays (2017), Tampa Bay Rays (2018), Texas Rangers (2020), Minnesota Twins (2021) and Boston (2022-25) in his career.
In four seasons with the Red Sox, Refsnyder hit .276 (223x809) with 117 runs, 48 doubles, 2 triples, 27 home runs, 119 RBI and 100 walks with an .804 OPS and 123 OPS+.
Since 2022, Refsnyder is hitting .312 (133x426) against left-handed pitching, with 28 doubles, 19 homers, 77 RBI and 64 walks, posting a .407 on-base percentage, .516 slugging percentage, and .924 OPS. During that span, his .312 average against left-handers ranks 6th in the Majors while his .924 OPS ranks 7th (min. 400 PA). Refsnyder’s .407 OBP against lefties since 2022 ranks 3rd in MLB behind only Aaron Judge-NYY (.452) and Paul Goldschmidt-STL/NYY (.412).
Refsnyder attended Laguna Hills High School (CA) and later the University of Arizona, selected in the 5th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the New York Yankees. He was a star player for the Arizona Wildcats, which included winning the College World Series over South Carolina and being named CWS “Most Outstanding Player” in 2012.
Refsnyder was born in Seoul, South Korea and would become the fourth Korean-born player in Mariners history joining Shin-Soo Choo (2005-06), Cha-Seung Baek (2007) and Dae-ho Lee (2016).
