OAKLAND -- Mark Canha drew inspiration from one of his favorite childhood movies when selecting his Players' Weekend nickname.

"'Tom Ace' is a reference from 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,'" Canha said. "It was probably my favorite movie growing up as a kid. Jim Carrey was my guy growing up, so I saw all of his movies as soon as they came out."
Tom Ace emerges in a scene that features Courtney Cox, who mistakenly introduces Carrey as "Ace."
"She slips," Canha said, "and realizes she can't say his name because he's undercover for an investigation, so she says, 'Tom Ace.'
"I just kind of adopted that."
Other A's nicknames include "PTBNL" (Josh Phegley) and "Manaealator" (Sean Manaea).
