MIAMI -- The Marlins reinstated starting pitcher Tom Koehler from the 10-day DL on Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A New Orleans.
Koehler had been on the disabled list since May 18 for right shoulder bursitis following a start against the Astros in which he allowed eight runs in three innings.
In two rehab starts in the Minors, Koehler tossed 7 1/3 innings while yielding eight hits, four runs and striking out 13. A fixture in the Marlins' rotation over the past five years, Koehler struggled to the tune of a 1-2 record and a 7.04 ERA in eight starts this season for Miami.
"Everything is going pretty much as well as we expected as far as guys coming back," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.
No. 1 prospect being examined
Braxton Garrett, the club's No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, will be examined by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. The left-handed pitcher has an ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) strain in his left elbow and could require Tommy John reconstructive surgery.
The seventh overall pick in 2016 made four starts this season for Class A Greensboro, where he was 1-0 and owned a 2.93 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings.
Garrett was shut down after his most recent start on May 25, in which he lasted just 1 2/3 innings and surrendered four runs on six hits.
