If you, like so many over the past week, saw the video of a disappointed pup watching another canine eat a hot dog at the Marlins’ Bark in the Park night, we have some good news for you.
The dog, a 6-year-old cunucu named Jonah, has been found. And the Marlins have connected with Jonah and his owner, Peter Silveira, to make their promise of a “dream day” at loanDepot park come true. Silveira commented on the Marlins’ original “Wanted ad” post that he and Jonah are looking at July 12 against the Guardians as their return to the ballpark.
Now, Silveira and Jonah have been on a bit of a press tour since the video went viral, showing Jonah stoically watching as the other four-legged spectator downed a frank without sharing. They joined Inside Edition to recap the moment.
“That was a crazy video. He just stared at it!” Silveira said. “And it’s funny, I was totally oblivious to that whole thing going on.”
Silveira said he’s not sure what the Marlins have planned for Jonah, but that it would be cool if he got to play fetch around the field. And Silveira finished up the interview with the moment we’ve all been waiting for: feeding Jonah his long-awaited hot dog.
Plenty more frankfurters should be on the way when Silveira and Jonah finally get back to a Marlins game, but there’s a catch. Silveira revealed to WPLG, a local news station in South Florida, that Jonah’s favorite food is actually ice cream. Thus, maybe a sweet treat will be in store on July 12, too.
Jonah was born in Aruba and rescued from a dumpster before making his way to Silveira. Now that he’s become a well-deserving internet celebrity, there’s also an Instagram account chronicling what comes next for Jonah and his family.
