Here's the latest on the Marlins' injuries

LOS ANGELES -- The Marlins on Friday provided updates on several of their injured players ahead of their series opener at Dodger Stadium.

Here is a rundown:

is progressing with baseball activities and is close to starting a rehab assignment. The utility man went on the injured list with a left oblique strain on May 21, retroactive to May 19.

, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right forearm flexor strain on Tuesday (retroactive to Sunday), has not resumed throwing. The right-hander has a 1.88 ERA in 29 games this season and is a possible trade chip for the Marlins, though the injury may impact the return they could get.

• Right-hander threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Friday after throwing 15 fastballs off a mound on Tuesday. Steckenrider has been out with right elbow inflammation since May 7.

• Right-hander , who threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday, is set to throw another bullpen session on Saturday. Lopez was placed on the injured list with a right shoulder strain on June 19, retroactive to June 16.

• Jose Urena is doing his throwing progressions, but no long tossing. The right-hander has been out with a left lower back strain since June 9.

• Catcher Chad Wallach, who is on the 60-day injured after sustaining a concussion, is still not taking part in baseball activity. Wallach last played on May 21.

Worth noting

Miami has signed right-handed reliever Brian McKenna, who had been pitching in the independent Frontier League, according to his team’s Twitter account. The Marlins have not yet confirmed.

In 22 1/3 innings for the Florence Freedom this season, McKenna had a 3.63 ERA with 34 strikeouts and no walks. The 26-year-old’s fastball sits 95-97 mph and has maxed out at 99 this year.

Right-hander Trevor Richards was signed by the Marlins out of the Frontier League in 2016.
