MIAMI -- The Marlins tended to more roster housekeeping on Thursday, placing relievers Josh A. Smith, Pat Venditte and Mike Morin on outright waivers. All three are expected to become free agents.

Each of the three was reinstated from the 60-day injured list before being outrighted, which removes them from the 40-man roster.

Since the World Series ended on Tuesday night, the MLB offseason is officially underway, and clubs are dealing with roster formalities regarding players who finished the 2020 season on the injured list.

Of the trio, Smith saw the most action.

The Marlins used him mainly in multi-inning situations. He even made one spot start, as an opener. The 33-year-old right-hander appeared in 16 games and logged 26 1/3 innings, with a 1-1 record and 6.84 ERA. He struck out 18 with 11 walks.

On Sept. 24, Miami placed Smith on the injured list with a fractured nail.

Venditte, a switch-pitcher, appeared in just three games and logged 4 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. The 35-year-old went on the injured list with a right oblique strain on Aug. 20.

Morin, 29, appeared in three games and threw four shutout innings. He had his season cut short due to a right UCL injury, and he was placed on the injured list on Aug. 14.
