OAKLAND -- Matt Chapman continues to build his reputation as an excellent all-around performer. Speed is the latest tool that the A's third baseman has demonstrated.
Friday against the Angels, Chapman beat out an infield hit and stretched a single into a double. Many players would have been called out on the former and wouldn't have tried the latter.
"He is a terrific, aggressive baserunner," A's manager Bob Melvin told reporters. "He's not necessarily a base stealer, and I don't know that I want him stealing bases. But once he gets going, he's as fast as anybody we have.
"There are a lot of facets to his game that he's very good at. And baserunning is one of them."
