WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Cardinals and Nationals had a pair of encouraging pitching performances during St. Louis' 2-1 victory in 10 innings Friday afternoon at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
Stephen Strasburg looked sharp in his Grapefruit League debut, tossing a pair of scoreless innings and featuring a new mechanical tweak. Michael Wacha threw three scoreless innings in his second outing of the spring.

Strasburg pitched exclusively from the stretch Friday after deciding to make the change in his delivery this offseason, in an effort to help simplify his mechanics. He was happy with the results, needing 23 pitches to blank the Cardinals and strike out three.
"I pounded the strike zone; that's what I wanted to go out there and do," Strasburg said. "Curveball felt good. I was a little too much out in front of it, but that's normal at this point. I'm just glad that I saw a sharp break, just didn't locate that pitch as well. All the other pitchers were where I wanted them to be."

After Strasburg left the game, the Cardinals scored a run in the third as Tommy Pham drove in a run on a groundout.
Wacha surrendered three hits and a walk and struck out two.
"This is just my second start, but I'm real happy with the way my body has been feeling and the way I've been recovering after bullpens and these outings," Wacha said. "I am excited about how it's feeling right now and going forward, for sure."

Cardinals righty Trevor Rosenthal, who allowed two hits and a walk, surrendered a run on a single by Trea Turner.
"Early in the inning, just up in the zone, not getting ahead," said Rosenthal, whose next outing will be a start Monday. "I felt like I started getting in a groove and figuring it out as the inning went on."
Cardinals Up Next: The Cards return to Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday to face the Nationals in a 12:05 p.m. CT game on MLB.TV. Lance Lynn, who allowed one run on two hits Tuesday, will be making his second spring start for St. Louis. John Gant, Brett Cecil and Jonathan Broxton are scheduled to pitch in relief.
