DETROIT -- has his name all over the record books as he continues to build his Hall of Fame resume. In the second inning of Friday's 15-5 win over the White Sox, the Tigers' first baseman collected another milestone by drilling a two-out, two-run double for his 1,000th career extra-base hit.
After hitting a double in the first over the head of center fielder , Cabrera pulled a knuckle-curve off in the second, short-hopping it off the left-field wall. It was Cabrera's first multi-extra-base hit game this season. He'd had just 12 extra-base hits in 40 games entering Friday.
"There's no question the lineup kind of looks to Miggy as an offensive leader," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "And sometimes it's unfair to him, but most of the time he comes through."
Cabrera is ranked 39th all-time in extra-base hits and is the fourth active player to reach the millennium mark, after , and .
With 532 career doubles, Cabrera is two shy of tying Lou Gehrig for 39th all-time. Cabrera is also one home run short of tying Carl Yastrzemski (452) for 37th and three RBIs short of matching Al Kaline (1,582) for 41st.
