Major League Baseball announced on Monday that Saturday accounted for the largest non-Opening Week single-day April attendance in eight years.

Saturday's 16 games drew 540,363 fans, the highest total since 555,948 fans attended 16 games on April 23, 2016.

Not only that, but the overall weekend attendance of 1,460,736 across 46 games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday was the best April weekend (excluding season-opening weekends) since 2017.

Some of the fans who filled stadiums from Friday-Sunday to create the historic numbers were treated to see some history on the field, too.

On Friday, Braves catcher Travis d'Arnaud clubbed three homers, including a grand slam, to pace an 8-3 win over the Rangers in Atlanta. It was d'Arnaud's second three-homer game, making him just the third catcher with multiple three-homer performances, joining Johnny Bench and Gary Carter.

Then, on Sunday, fans at Dodger Stadium saw Shohei Ohtani hit his 176th career homer in a 10-0 win over the Mets, making him the all-time MLB home run leader among players born in Japan.
