MLB observing moment of remembrance on Memorial Day

May 30th, 2022

This Memorial Day marks the 25th anniversary of Major League Baseball honoring and observing the National Moment of Remembrance, a special effort created to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, show gratitude and help younger Americans understand the significance of the holiday.

Each year on Memorial Day, MLB and its clubs observe a solemn pause through the National Moment of Remembrance. All ballparks on Monday will pause at approximately 3 p.m. local time in observance of the moment.

In-game action and pregame activities will pause to observe an extended moment of silence, and clubs not in action at 3 p.m. local time will observe a brief moment of silence prior to the national anthem before their respective games.

As an additional homage to the memory of the fallen, all on-field MLB personnel (players, coaches and umpires) will wear the traditional Memorial red poppy on the left side of their jerseys with “Lest We Forget” language connected. These uniform items will not be sold at retail to the general public.

MLB has historically supported the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (T.A.P.S.) and the Folds of Honor foundation.
