Major League Baseball's expansion era began in 1961, with the addition of the Angels and Rangers franchises, followed by the Mets and Astros franchises in '62. In the half century since, there have been countless memorable pennant races, postseason clashes and World Series featuring countless memorable teams, from the strongest of juggernauts to the most magical of underdogs.
But which one of those teams is the best of them all? It might seem like an impossible question -- but MLB Network has set out to answer it.
Tonight at 9 ET, MLB Network will count down its top 25 teams of the expansion era. These are some of the truly transcendent teams to ever grace a diamond.
Who will take home the No. 1 honors? Could it be the curse-shattering 2016 Cubs or '04 Red Sox? The 116-win 2001 Mariners? The dynasty Yankees? The Miracle Mets? The '86 Mets? The Big Red Machine? The Maddux-Glavine-Smoltz-troika-led Braves? The Sandy Koufax-led Dodgers?
Any number of brilliant squads could stake a claim to being alone at the pinnacle. They'd all be worthy, having treated baseball fans everywhere to some of the most indelible moments in the history of the sport.
There can be only one at the top, even among these best of the best. Tune in and find out.
