Celebrate Boggs, postseason gems on MLB Network

June 14th, 2020

Fans can celebrate Hall of Famer Wade Boggs' birthday, and relive some memorable postseason pitching performances Monday on MLB Network. Watch Boggs make history with his 3,000th hit, followed by a vintage Boggs performance in the 1986 World Series. Then, it's a lineup of some of the most dominant pitching gems in recent postseason memory. Here's the full programming schedule.

8 a.m. ET -- Boggs' 3,000th hit, Indians at Rays on Aug. 7, 1999
Celebrate Hall of Famer Wade Boggs' birthday by watching the legendary third baseman collect the 3,000th hit of his illustrious career. It came in the sixth inning off Cleveland starter Chris Haney, and it wasn't a trademark Boggs single -- it was a home run, marking the first time anyone had ever joined the 3,000-hit club with a homer (Derek Jeter has done it since).

10 a.m. ET -- 1986 World Series Game 2, Mets at Red Sox
We all remember the 1986 World Series first and foremost for Boston's collapse in Game 6, when the club was three outs away from its first championship in 68 years. But this Fall Classic was much more than that. Watch Game 2 at Shea Stadium, when Wade Boggs singled and doubled, driving in two in a 9-3 Red Sox victory to put Boston up 2-0 in the Series.

Noon ET -- 2015 NL Wild Card Game, Cubs at Pirates
In 2015, then-Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta had a second half for the ages, posting a 0.75 ERA over 15 starts following the All-Star break. And in Chicago's first postseason game in seven years, he continued his mastery of hitters. Arrieta tossed a five-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts in the Cubs' 4-0 victory. Watch his gem from the first pitch to the final out.

2 p.m. ET -- 1997 ALDS Game 4, Mariners at Orioles
Hall of Famer Mike Mussina threw seven strong innings against a powerful Seattle lineup, limiting the Mariners to one run on two hits while walking three and striking out seven. He out-dueled fellow Hall of Famer Randy Johnson, and with a 3-1 victory, Baltimore advanced to the American League Championship Series.

4 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET -- 2016 World Series Game 1, Cubs at Indians
Corey Kluber was brilliant, turning in six scoreless innings while striking out nine for the Tribe, who went on to win Game 1 at Progressive Field, 6-0. Though the Series wouldn't end the way Cleveland wanted, this was a memorable performance in the franchise's first World Series appearance in nearly two decades.

7 p.m. ET -- "MLB Network Presents: Eck: A Story of Saving"
Dennis Eckersley is one of the greatest closers of all time, and has had his share of peaks and valleys, both on the field and off. Watch this documentary of how Eckersley came up through the Indians organization, became an All-Star starter with the Red Sox, overcame alcoholism and revolutionized the closer role along with manager Tony La Russa in Oakland, where the two helped lead the A's to three straight World Series from 1988-90.

8 p.m. ET -- Bleacher Feature: "Brewster's Millions"
You're a Minor League pitcher. You get arrested after a postgame bar fight. You get bailed out and taken to a law office where you're informed that your great uncle, whom you never met, died and left you a $300 million fortune, but with conditions for inheriting all the money. You can take $1 million up front, or you can take the challenge of spending $30 million in 30 days, at the end of which, you get the entire fortune if successful. That's the situation in this 1985 comedy starring Richard Pryor, who even hires the Yankees to play an exhibition game against his Minor League squad to burn some of his cash.
