MLB Network highlights Young Stars Week

August 30th, 2021

The future of America's pastime has never been brighter thanks to the abundance of young players who do things on the diamond that leave you awestruck every day. And MLB Network will devote the next week to celebrating these precocious performers.

MLB Network Young Stars Week began Sunday night with the "Young Stars Special," as Scott Braun, Harold Reynolds and Pedro Martinez will spotlight the best 25-and-under players in the game today. The show will also highlight the best plays, bat flips, personalities and moments from MLB’s young stars.

One standout player will then be showcased in each of the next five days with a feature story on "MLB Central" and "MLB Tonight." Here is the schedule for your viewing pleasure (all stats entering Saturday):

Monday: , Tigers
Selected in the Rule 5 Draft last December, Baddoo became the first Tigers player in more than 70 years to homer on the first pitch he saw in the Major Leagues on April 4. The 23-year-old has been instrumental in Detroit's surprising success, posting a .785 OPS for a team that is 10 games over .500 since May 8.

Tuesday: , Reds
India looks like the favorite to take home the NL Rookie of the Year Award, as his 3.3 fWAR leads all first-year players. The 2018 first-round Draft pick is slashing .281/.396/.489 since the Reds made him their leadoff man on June 5.

Wednesday: , Braves
Some people probably doubted Atlanta's playoff chances once they lost another young star, Ronald Acuña Jr., to a season-ending knee injury on July 10. But Riley has come to the rescue, slugging 13 home runs with a 1.054 OPS for the first-place Braves since that fateful day.

Thursday: , Rays
Franco, at just 20 years old, has lived up to the sky-high expectations that come with being the No. 1 prospect in baseball, a title he held entering this season. Franco is slashing .314/.385/.533 with 27 runs scored during a 27-game on-base streak entering Saturday. Not only is that the longest current streak in MLB, it's the longest streak by a 20-year-old since Hall of Famer Frank Robinson reached base in 43 consecutive games in 1956.

Friday: , Marlins
Whether he is stealing a base, crushing a home run into the upper deck or flashing his blue hair, everything Chisholm Jr. does catches your eye. He could be a 30-30 threat in the years to come; the 23-year-old from the Bahamas has tallied 14 homers and 16 steals in just 91 games this season.
