Fantasy chat: Gregerson now a must-add

April 4th, 2016

MLB.com fantasy guru Fred Zinkie fielded questions from fans during a live Twitter chat at @Fantasy411 on Monday. Check out the chat transcript below and check out the @Fantasy411 Twitter handle and MLB.com's fantasy home. Questions and answers have been edited for clarity.
@ChrisTaylor250: With the A.J. Pollock injury, which young player do you like best to take advantage and breakout, Yasmany Tomas or Socrates Brito?
Fred Zinkie: Brito gets the biggest boost in value, but I would rather own Tomas because his playing time is likely more secure.
@FortonJohnny: Who do you believe to be the first impact prospect to get called up to the Majors this season?
Zinkie: My best guess is Jose Berrios. The Twins could use a stud starter.
@LValentine7: Do you expect a breakout season from any of Patrick Corbin, Taijuan Walker or Carlos Rodon?
Zinkie: I expect Corbin to be the steadiest of the three. Walker and Rodon both have breakout potential. I would rather own Rodon.

@Saulty22: Which outfielder would you prefer to own: Delino DeShields, Josh Reddick, Marcell Ozuna, Stephen Piscotty, Avisail Garcia or Michael Saunders?
Zinkie: I prefer DeShields and Piscotty out of that group. Ozuna would be my third option.
@RobMittelman: How long do you give your team before tinkering? Also, how long would you wait before making a major trade?
Zinkie: I would tinker or make a major trade right now if I liked the move. It is never too early to improve your roster. I have already made multiple major deals this season.
@RickyRefunjol: Where do you predict Hanley Ramirez to finish the season among first basemen?
Zinkie: I don't expect him to be among the top-12 at that position. My guess is between 15-18.
@DN1CE23: I was thinking of stashing Alex Cobb. What are your expectations for him?
Zinkie: Because Cobb is not expected to return until late in the season, I believe that you can find better stash options.
@mo_fri: I have an open roster spot. Should I add Mike Fiers, Andrew Cashner, Aaron Sanchez or Phil Hughes?
Zinkie: I would add Fiers, who could make a significant impact if he can retain his rotation spot all season.
@Nelson_Nellie6: I have Pollock in a 29-man keeper league with no disabled-list spots. Should I just stash him, or should I drop him and pick up someone else?
Zinkie: In most one-year leagues, he can be dropped in the coming days. But in keeper leagues I recommend stashing him as soon as possible.
@DMacNoodle: Should I drop Dellin Betances for Luke Gregerson?
Zinkie: Gregerson needs to be owned in all leagues. You can drop Betances if he is the least-valuable player on your roster.
@strikesmalone: Is Brock Holt worthy of a roster spot?
Zinkie: Holt is a fine bench player in 15-team leagues. His multiposition eligibility makes him an asset. He should stay on waivers in 12-team formats.
@sritsema11: At my middle-infield spot, should I use DJ LeMahieu, Brandon Phillips or Cesar Hernandez?
Zinkie: You should use LeMahieu when the Rockies are at home and Phillips the rest of the time.
@Alindeman23: Should I drop Ken Giles for Luke Gregerson?
Zinkie: In shallow leagues, that is the sensible switch.

@clevefangirl: Do you expect Gregerson to remain the Astros' closer all season?
Zinkie: I do. He has the skill set to hold the job. That being said, I know that his leash will be short. Giles is a recommended handcuff.
@BenjaminDzaldov: Are you optimistic about either Yu Darvish or Kevin Gausman when they return from injury?
Zinkie: I am optimistic about Darvish, due to his ability to post high strikeout totals. I am not as optimistic about Gausman.
@lele670: Should I start Trevor Story or Ian Desmond this week?
Zinkie: I would go with Story this week. He has exciting potential for at least the initial weeks of the season.
@banoycocina: What are your thoughts on Ryan Zimmerman? Also, would you rather own Jake Lamb or Tyler White?
Zinkie: Zimmerman should be in the lineup in most league. Of the other options, I'll take my chances with White.
@PG3Phil: Do you prefer Aaron Nola or Berrios in a dynasty league?
Zinkie: Nola. The Phillies will improve at some point.
@MorganPJames: Should I keep or drop Rusney Castillo in a 15-team league?
Zinkie: Drop him. The Red Sox have many other options in left field.

@aarond23: Do you expect Devin Mesoraco to be a top-12 catcher this season?
Zinkie: Yes, if he stays healthy. But his durability is a major question mark.
@Shiv1537: Would you rather own Jonathan Schoop or Dustin Pedroia?
Zinkie: I would go with Pedroia. He hits in a premium spot in a strong lineup.
@ouldsy20: Should I pick up Pedro Alvarez or Mark Teixeira?
Zinkie: Teixeira. He was very productive last season prior to landing on the disabled list.
@BThomas62: Would you rather own Shawn Tolleson or Roberto Osuna?
Zinkie: I would rather own Osuna. He could be a borderline top-tier closer.

@tyler_brodeur20: What are your predictions for Cole Hamels this year?
Zinkie: I expect him to be a low-end No. 2 starter. Roughly 20th among starters. I'm not expecting ace-level numbers.
@JimmyG1510: Should I pick up Yordano Ventura or Juan Nicasio?
Zinkie: Ventura. Nicasio had a great spring, but he has had little regular-season success.
@BreakingBald:_ Should I stash Tyler Glasnow in a 10-team league with four bench spots?
Zinkie: You can drop Glasnow in a 10-team league.
