Birthdays represent the quintessential celebratory occasion. And if you’re a baseball player, what better way to celebrate your birthday than with a home run?
Throughout Major League history, there have been certain players with a penchant for homering on their big day, including the great Mike Trout, who tied an MLB record by smashing his sixth birthday home run while playing against the Marlins on Aug. 7, 2026.
Here’s a look at the players with the most home runs on their birthday:
Mike Trout: 6
Trout was the best position player of the 2010s, and he has been particularly good throughout his career on his birthday. En route to an AL Rookie of the Year Award and a runner-up finish in MVP voting in 2012, Trout launched a homer on his 21st birthday against the A’s. The three-time AL MVP and 12-time All-Star then smashed homers on his 22nd, 24th, 26th, 29th and 35th birthdays.
Trout’s homer against the Marlins in Miami on the day he turned 35 -- Aug. 7, 2026 -- tied the Major League record for homers on a player’s birthday. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it also made Trout the third player in MLB history to homer on his birthday at both 21 years old or younger and 35 or older, joining Alex Rodriguez and Ted Williams.
A-Rod homered against the Tigers while with the Mariners at the Kingdome on July 27, 1996, his 21st birthday. Five years later, he hit the first of three homers he would hit on his birthday while with the Rangers -- one on his 26th birthday against the Rays and two on his 27th against the A’s.
Rodriguez then launched a pair of birthday homers during his time with the Yankees -- the first came on his 29th birthday in Toronto, and the second came on his 40th at Texas.
Like Rodriguez, Reynolds also homered on his birthday for three teams. His first came on Aug. 3, 2009, when he turned 26. In fact, Reynolds belted two homers for the D-backs against the Mets in New York that day. He went on to homer for Arizona against the Nationals the following year, and then homered on his 31st birthday for the Brewers before doing so for the Rockies on his 33rd and 34th birthdays.
Jones’ first birthday bomb came on April 24, 1996, the day he turned 24. The Hall of Fame third baseman, who spent his entire 20-year career with the Braves, hit it against the Giants at Candlestick Park. He then homered on his birthday in 2001 against the Astros (launching two on his 29th birthday), 2008 against the Marlins (36th) and 2012 against the Dodgers (40th).
Todd Helton: 5
Helton belted his first birthday homer as a rookie in 1998, when he turned 25 on Aug. 20 against the Expos in Montreal. The Hall of Fame first baseman would homer on his birthday four more times for the Rockies, the club with whom he spent his entire 17-year career. Helton connected for birthday bombs in 2000 (27th birthday), 2002 (29th), 2004 (31st) and 2011 (38th). In all, three of his five birthday home runs (1998, 2002, 2004) came against the Expos.
Derrek Lee: 5
Lee was another slugger the Expos preferred not to see, particularly on his birthday. Two of his five career birthday home runs came against Montreal -- one when he turned 28 on Sept. 6, 2003, and the other a year later. His first birthday homer came on the day he turned 26, when he belted a two-run shot for the Marlins against the Mets.
The two other homers Lee launched on his birthday were in 2005 and ’06, meaning he homered on four consecutive birthdays. The final three were while playing for the Cubs, including a grand slam against the Pirates at Wrigley Field when he turned 31 in 2006.
Al Simmons: 5
Simmons hit 307 home runs over a 20-year Hall of Fame career as an outfielder from 1924-44. Five of them came on his birthday, and four of those five were hit for the Philadelphia Athletics. The first was on his 24th birthday -- May 22, 1926 against Cleveland. The next came three years later when he homered and drove in five runs against the Red Sox during a season in which he led the league with 157 RBIs.
In 1930 and ’32, Simmons connected for a home run on his 28th and 30th birthdays, respectively. Both were hit against the Yankees, the first in the second game of a doubleheader at Shibe Park and the second at Yankee Stadium. His final birthday homer came on the day he turned 33, when he homered yet again against the Yanks, this time while playing for the White Sox in 1935.
