Pipeline Preview: Fedde makes next Triple-A start

July 14th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Luis Urias (Padres' No. 4), San Antonio at Frisco (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Urias, MLBPipeline.com's No. 94 overall prospect, went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs on Thursday to improve his batting average to .305 for Double-A San Antonio. The 20-year-old middle infielder has been anything but overmatched against older competition in the Texas League, where he's tallied 97 hits including 22 extra-base while compiling more walks (46) than strikeouts (41) in 82 games.

Pitcher to watch: Erick Fedde (Nationals' No. 2), Syracuse vs. Pawtucket (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Fedde, 24, is set to make his third start for Triple-A Syracuse since being moved back into the starting rotation from the bullpen. After failing to record an out in his first Triple-A start (6 ER, 5 H, 2 BB), the No. 49 overall prospect bounced back to strike out four of the nine batters he faced over three perfect innings in his subsequent turn. As a reliever, Fedde posted a 3.86 ERA with seven strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings spanning six appearances.

Duel of the day: Thomas Hatch (Cubs' No. 8) vs. (White Sox No. 13), Myrtle Beach vs. Winston-Salem (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
After a shaky start to his season, Hatch has been nothing short of dominant for Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach for the better part of the last two months. Over his past nine starts, the 22-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 1.31 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 48 innings. Opposing hitters, meanwhile, are slashing just .239/.296/.328 against him in that span.

The four earned runs surrendered by Dunn in his latest outing for Winston-Salem was more than the 22-year-old right-hander allowed in his previous four starts combined. Overall, Dunning, whom the White Sox acquired from Washington as part of the Chris Sale trade in December, has registered a 3.03 ERA with 71 strikeouts over 62 1/3 innings (12 starts) in the Carolina League.
