KANSAS CITY -- Royals manager Ned Yost was ejected in the fourth inning of Thursday night's 6-4 win over the Mariners following a crew-chief review on Danny Valencia's home run.
The home run, the second of the game off Royals starter Trevor Cahill, hit close to the right-field pole as the Mariners took a 2-0 lead. Yost said during the review that he believed the ball hit the protective railing to the right of the pole, in which case it would have been a foul ball. The call on the field was ruled to stand, and Yost was clearly unhappy.
Yost engaged in an animated argument with home-plate umpire Larry Vanover, who soon tossed Yost. After the game, Yost said the umpires got the call right.

"I'm pretty certain that it wasn't [a foul ball] now," Yost said. "What we couldn't tell is that it glanced off the pole. Even later, I could never tell it glanced off the pole. The view that I saw looked like it was two-feet foul. The review kept going longer and longer and I'm thinking, 'There's no way they can miss this.' When they said it was a home run, I was convinced it wasn't.
"It hit on the pole. After the inning I asked [right fielder Melky Cabrera], and Melky said it hit on the pole. Melky was right there. You never could really tell it hit the pole and shot down, but the umpires absolutely got it right."
Yost was also ejected in Wednesday night's 6-0 loss to the Orioles in the ninth inning. Thursday's ejection was the 42nd of his managerial career and it's the first time he has been tossed in back-to-back games.
