Ahmed out of Monday's lineup with foot injury

D-backs shortstop believes issue is minor; hopes to start Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA -- 's left foot had not improved enough for him to be in the lineup for Monday night’s series opener against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Ahmed initially injured the foot toward the end of Saturday’s game in Toronto, when his foot slipped in the batter’s box in the eighth inning.

Ahmed was in the lineup Sunday, but was removed in the third inning when the foot continued to bother him. He attempted to take batting practice Monday afternoon, but it didn’t go well.

“My foot is sore,” Ahmed said. “I got a bunch of treatment on it [Sunday], and today tried to ramp it up and swing, and not really able to swing without compensating and all that. So take a day today, and keep getting treatment all day and all night and be ready if an emergency situation were to pop up. But going to try and rest it today, and hopefully be back in there tomorrow.”

The team does not believe the injury requires any tests, such as an X-ray or MRI at this point.

“I trust what they’re saying and what they’re thinking," Ahmed said. "And, as of now, I don’t think it’s necessary."
