Orioles to take it slow with rehabbing O'Day

July 1st, 2016

SEATTLE -- There is no timetable for Orioles reliever Darren O'Day to throw his next bullpen session as the right-hander continues to be slowed by a high hamstring strain.
O'Day, who threw in San Diego on Tuesday, was originally slated to throw a simulated game after that but manager Buck Showalter said the side session "was just OK" and that the team is going to take it slow.
"There's been days where I felt like I was ready for a game, and then two days later, it wouldn't feel nearly as well," said O'Day, who last appeared in a game on June 1. "It's tough. It's right on the bone. There's not a ton of blood supply, as far as I understand, so it takes a while to scar down and re-attach. And the way I pitch, I stress that area quite a bit. So, don't want to be dealing with it all season. We are just trying to get it right. "
O'Day said he wasn't sure when he would throw next but did confirm that he would take at least one more bullpen session before any kind of sim game. Asked if he felt the injury while pitching, O'Day said he sometimes did.
"The only real actives I've done so far are pitching and a little bit of running," said O'Day. "Pitching is, it elongates the muscle there, so that produces it sometimes."
