Source: Orioles don't retain 3 coaches

October 4th, 2019

The Orioles will not retain first-base/outfield coach Arnie Beyeler, assistant hitting coach Howie Clark and bullpen coach John Wasdin for the 2020 season, a source has told MLB.com. The Athletic was first to report the moves, and the club has not commented.

Beyeler was hired before the 2019 season after previous stints with the Red Sox and Marlins, while Clark was the last holdover from former manager Buck Showalter’s coaching staff. A well-travelled righty, Wasdin had a 12-year playing career that included a 26-game stint with the Orioles in 2001. He served as the club's Minor League pitching coordinator from 2017-18 before joining manager Brandon Hyde's staff last offseason.

Aside from the three departures, the rest of the O's coaching staff is expected to remain in place for next season. Major League field coordinator and catching instructor Tim Cossins and third-base coach Jose Flores are the only members of the staff who are on two-year deals or under contract through 2020.

The Orioles went 54-108 and finished in last place in the American League East in their first year under Hyde.
