BALTIMORE -- One night after the Orioles hit a season-high seven home runs, they used some small ball in a 6-5 win over the Yankees. The victory moved Baltimore into a virtual tie for first place with the Red Sox in the American League East.
Baltimore scored four times over the sixth and seventh with just one extra-base hit. Three of those runs came in the sixth against starter Nathan Eovaldi, with Matt Wieters delivering a two-run single and Jonathan Schoop scoring Mark Trumbo with the tying run on a two-out double.

"We were up by three runs, and in that situation, I've got to do a better job of getting quick outs and attacking the hitters," Eovaldi said. "It's frustrating that I let them back in the game and that they were then able to come back and win."

Adam Jones and Hyun Soo Kim led off the seventh with singles against Dellin Betances (2-3), before Jones scored the eventual winning run on a soft grounder to third by Manny Machado. Kim matched his career high with three hits for the second time in three games.

The Yankees built a 5-2 lead with Carlos Beltran, Alex Rodriguez and Austin Romine all homering. Beltran and Rodriguez went back to back during a 43-pitch fourth inning for Orioles starter Chris Tillman. Romine led off the fifth with his second home run of the season, while Chase Headley had a two-out RBI single in the sixth on Tillman's 109th and final pitch of the game.

Tillman allowed three home runs for the second straight start after allowing three long balls over his first 10 starts of the season. Neither starter factored in the decision, with Eovaldi allowing eight hits and five runs with five strikeouts and a walk in 5 1/3 innings.

Chris Davis hit a solo homer for the Orioles, his 11th of the season and his 100th career blast at Camden Yards (98 with the O's, two with the Texas Rangers in 2009).
Zach Britton pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 16th save, with Romine grounding into a game-ending double play.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Teixeira exits game early: Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira left the game in the third inning with discomfort in his right knee. The 36-year-old was examined by an Orioles team physician before leaving the stadium for an MRI.

"It's the reality of the game," manager Joe Girardi said. "You never know what's going to happen on a daily basis. So we'll find out [the MRI results] pretty soon, and we'll have to deal with it." More >

Century mark at Camden Yards: After falling behind in the count, 0-2, Davis crushed a 3-2 changeup over the right-field wall in the fourth inning for his milestone shot. The long ball ended a 12-game home run drought for Davis, who went 6-for-46 with 20 strikeouts during that span. Davis' blast cut New York's lead to 3-2.

Beltran, Rodriguez go back to back: Tillman threw 31 pitches while facing the minimum nine batters through the first three innings, but the Orioles' ace lost his command in the fourth. Tillman walked Brett Gardner on four pitches before Beltran launched a 3-1 pitch to deep center field for his 13th homer of the season. Rodriguez then sent a 3-1 offering over the right-field wall for his seventh homer. It was the third time this season the Yankees have hit back-to-back home runs.
O's bullpen shines: On the day when the Orioles placed All-Star reliever Darren O'Day on the disabled list, the bullpen tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Manager Buck Showalter turned the game over to the 'pen with the Orioles down, 5-2, but they kept New York off the board to allow the offense to mount a comeback. T.J. McFarland, Mychal Givens (5-0) and Britton combined to limit the Yankees to two baserunners.

Yankees:Ivan Nova (3-3, 3.98 ERA) takes the mound in the middle game of the three-game series Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET. Nova will look to rebound after allowing four runs in six innings in a 4-2 loss in Toronto on Monday.
Orioles: Baltimore sends Tyler Wilson (2-4, 3.83 ERA) to the hill, hoping to reduce its home runs allowed. Wilson, though, has allowed homers in six of his past seven starts.
