O's sport pink, honor Dr. John Fetting

May 13th, 2018

BALTIMORE -- Pink was everywhere on Sunday at Camden Yards, as the Orioles and Rays -- in conjunction with teams from around baseball -- showed their love to their mothers in support of a good cause.
The O's sported pink caps -- which will be autographed and available through orioles.com/auction -- with many others donning pink cleats, socks and wrist bands. Louisville Slugger will again donate proceeds from the sale of their pink bats, which will be stamped with the MLB breast cancer awareness logo, to Susan G. Komen and Stand Up To Cancer. MLB will also donate its licensed uniform royalties through Mother's Day apparel to Susan G. Komen and Stand Up To Cancer.

Baltimore native Dr. John Fetting was also honored as the Orioles' Birdland Community Hero for his exceptional work in the fight against breast cancer.
Fetting, an Associate Professor of Oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital, is an advocate for breast cancer prevention, research and fundraising. Through his work as a medical oncologist with the John's Hopkins Breast Cancer Program, Fetting has been actively involved in clinical trials and patient care.

The John Fetting Fund for Breast Cancer Prevention at Johns Hopkins, initiated by patient Leslie Ries, has raised $3.8 million dollars since its inception. Along with proceeds derived from the pink cap auction, the Orioles will donate an additional $2,500 to the fund as part of Dr. Fetting's recognition as the Birdland Community Hero.
