O's assessing McFarland's elbow with X-ray

March 7th, 2016

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Orioles reliever T.J. McFarland was to undergo an X-ray on his left elbow on Monday morning after exiting Sunday's game early with tenderness in the area.
"I haven't felt it before, it wasn't like a lingering thing," said McFarland, who pitched 1 1/3 innings in the O's 8-7 loss to the Red Sox. "It kind of just happened. We're hopeful, everybody's hopeful it's not anything too serious. So we'll assess it and go from there."
McFarland, who has no prior history of elbow issues, said he didn't think it was anything serious.

"It's more on the extension, it's more on me finishing my pitches, fully extending my elbow. It's not anything to do with the ligament, that's why it's hopeful," he said.
"There was a certain pitch. It was later on in the outing. I kind of obviously tried to pitch through it. Because I didn't think it was anything, I still don't think it's anything. So, we'll reassess it."
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said after Sunday's game that he had planned for McFarland to throw closer to 40 pitches, but the lefty didn't look quite right.
