Reds name Oscar Marin new bullpen coach

November 13th, 2025

The Cincinnati Reds on Thursday announced an additional hire to Terry Francona's coaching staff. The club has named Oscar Marin (pronounced "mah-REEN") as bullpen coach. Matt Tracy has moved to assistant pitching coach after serving as the club's bullpen coach for the last three seasons. Former assistant pitching coach Simon Mathews left the Reds to become the pitching coach of the Washington Nationals.

Marin enters his 17th season as a professional pitching coach and eighth as a member of a Major League coaching staff. He joins the Reds after spending the last 6 years as the Pirates' pitching coach, overseeing a staff that featured 2025 NL Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes. Under his guidance, Pittsburgh led Major League Baseball with 19 shutouts this past season, tied for the team's second-most in a single campaign in the live-ball era (since 1920). Marin landed his first Major League coaching role in 2019, serving as the Texas Rangers' bullpen coach. Before that, he spent two seasons as the Minor League pitching coordinator for the Seattle Mariners. Marin resides in Surprise, Ariz.
