Rays designate Arcia for assignment

ST. PETERSBURG -- was designated for assignment on Friday, the Rays announced prior to their game against the Rangers. Arcia was rehabbing from a right elbow strain, and he played nine games with Class A Advanced Charlotte.
Arcia hit .259 with Tampa Bay this season, with two home runs and seven RBIs. The Rays acquired him on June 24 after he was designated for assignment by the Twins the week prior. In his rehab assignment, Arcia was hitting .286 with three home runs and a triple.
Tampa Bay has a crowded outfield with , and . All three spent time on the disabled list this season, but with a healthy outfield, there wasn't a spot for the 25-year-old Arcia.
"No room right now, unfortunately," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "He does do some things that we like. If he gets claimed, great for him. If he clears, it will be good for him to get to [Triple-A] Durham and at least play here the last couple weeks and get some consistent at-bats."
