CHICAGO -- Ozzie Guillen will have his No. 13 jersey retired by the White Sox during a pregame ceremony on Aug. 8, when the team plays host to the Guardians, the organization announced during Friday afternoon’s home opener against the Blue Jays.
The White Sox cut to their CHSN studios after Sean Burke retired Toronto in the top of the third, where Guillen was seated with Chuck Garfien and Scott Podsednik. Garfien and Guillen make up the colorful and entertaining pregame and postgame team, while Podsednik was an integral player on the 2005 World Series champions managed by Guillen.
Podsednik read the proclamation regarding Guillen, bringing him to tears on the air, followed by a hug with his wife, Ibis. Guillen anchored shortstop for the White Sox from 1985-97, then managed the team from 2004-11. He finished with a 678-617 (.524) record at the helm.
