PHOENIX -- Injured right-hander Tyson Ross was slated to throw an extended bullpen session on Wednesday, but he twisted his ankle in his hotel room earlier in the day and the Padres decided to delay the session.
The Padres had a precautionary X-ray done on Ross' left ankle, and it came back negative. Ross will remain at the team's training complex in Peoria for the next couple days, before returning to San Diego.
Ross, who hasn't pitched since Opening Day because of shoulder inflammation, will still throw at least one more bullpen session before progressing to live batting practice -- which will mark the first time he's faced hitters since sustaining the injury.
The club has not yet set a date for Ross' next bullpen session, but it could come later this week.
