SAN FRANCISCO -- D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit a tying two-out home run in the top of the ninth inning Tuesday against the Giants, his first of the season, but it wasn't enough to stop Arizona from losing, 5-4.
Goldschmidt entered the game batting .118 and was 1-for-3 with a walk when he homered on a 1-1 pitch from San Francisco closer Hunter Strickland. The ball landed well into the stands in left field and silenced the crowd at AT&T Park.
"The last couple of days he's been swinging the bat batter," said bench coach Jerry Narron, who was filling in as manager Torey Lovullo served a one-game suspension. "I still think he's going to have the best year he's had."
Goldschmidt went into the game hitting .319 over his last 26 games at the Giants' waterfront ballpark.
