NEW YORK -- For the first time since weekly updates of the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot began, Lorenzo Cain is not in position to start in the outfield of the All-Star Game at Petco Park in San Diego.

An All-Star last year, Cain is batting .288 (74-for-257) with eight home runs and 37 RBIs in 66 games for the Royals.
Catcher Salvador Perez, the leading vote-getter in the AL, and first baseman Eric Hosmer are still in line to start the All-Star Game on July 12, with only nine days of voting left.
Shortstop Alcides Escobar and designated hitter Kendrys Morales both rank second in votes at their respective positions, while Omar Infante has received the fourth-most votes for second basemen. Paulo Orlando has the eighth-highest vote total for outfielders, as well.
The AL All-Star team will have nine elected starters via the fan balloting program, while the National League All-Star team will have eight fan-elected starters. Pitchers and reserves for both squads -- totaling 25 for the NL and 24 for the AL -- will be determined through a combination of Player Ballot choices and selections made by the two All-Star managers, Ned Yost of the Royals and Terry Collins of the Mets.
