Pete Alonso's HR Apple cleats are spectacular

Does the Velcro lift up when he hits a homer?

When you think of Citi Field, the Home Run Apple is probably one of the first stadium features that comes to mind. The old one, from Shea, sits outside for fans to pass as they get off the 7 train. The new one sits out in center field and rises every time a Mets player hits a home run. Well, almost every time.

So, it wasn't really a surprise when Pete Alonso -- a player who lives, laughs and cries Mets orange and blue -- sported some Home Run Apple-themed cleats for the team's home opener against the Marlins on Thursday. Just look at them. They're perfect.

You can check out the backs of them here during pregame ceremonies.

According to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, the first baseman will also be donning some special black cleats when the Mets wear their black uniforms and, of course, had his pair of 9/11 editions which he donated to the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
