PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez said Friday he is getting a second opinion before he has surgery to repair a vascular issue with his right middle finger.
The Phillies placed him on the 60-day disabled list Tuesday, when they announced he will have surgery. Velasquez has not pitched since Aug. 10, when he left his start against the Mets after the first inning because of numbness in the finger.
"I just want to get a second opinion," Velasquez said. "Who wants to jump to conclusions too quick?"
Velasquez said he will receive the second opinion Tuesday in Dallas.
So there is a chance he won't have the procedure? 
"There might be a possibility," Velasquez said. "We're going to see what this doctor says and we'll go from there, and then we'll sit down and see what we're going to do. If there is an operation that needs to be done, I can pick and choose who I want to be operated on by."
Velasquez said there is a pinch somewhere that is limiting blood flow to his middle finger, perhaps caused by some loose cartilage at the tip of the finger.
But if Velasquez has surgery, he said he expects a full recovery and that he will be ready by Spring Training.
"One hundred percent," he said. "It's very minor."
