Pipeline preview: Adams seeks continued success on mound

July 21st, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in Thursday's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Rhys Hoskins (Phillies' No. 19), Reading vs. Hartford (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Hoskins reclaimed the Minor League home run lead on Wednesday night when he connected on his 26th homer for Double-A Reading. After slugging 13 home runs over 27 games in June, the 23-year-old first baseman has cooled off in July, hitting .224 with four homers in his last 16 contests. All together, Hoskins has hit .279/.346/.561 through 91 games for Reading, while his 84 RBIs are tops among all Eastern League hitters.

Pitcher to watch: Chance Adams (Yankees' No. 19), Trenton at New Hampshire (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
In his last start for Double-A Trenton, Adams extended his hitless-innings streak to 11 before surrendering a leadoff double in the second inning -- the only hit he'd allow in the game. The 21-year-old righty went on to strike out eight while tossing six scoreless innings, giving him 16 straight scoreless frames entering the day. Adams has yet to lose a game this season, going 9-0 in 18 starts between Class A Advanced Tampa and Trenton, with a 2.45 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP and a 106-27 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 91 2/3 innings.
Duel of the day: Rob Kaminsky (Indians' No. 9) vs. Clay Holmes (Pirates' No. 15), Akron at Altoona (7 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Kaminsky, 21, was at his best in his last start for Double-A Akron as he tossed a season-high 7 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out six against Erie. The southpaw has not allowed more than two earned runs in six straight starts, during which he's registered a 2.46 ERA in 36 2/3 innings.

Holmes scuffled to begin his season but has pitched well since the calendar flipped to June. The 23-year-old right-hander has gone 4-1 in eight starts for Altoona during that stretch, while posting a 3.38 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 45 1/3 innings.
