Pipeline preview: Cotton set for second Sounds start

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in Tuesday's Minor League action:
Mejia streak watch:Indians No. 4 prospect Francisco Mejia aims to extend his 47-game hit streak as Lynchburg visits Potomac at 7:05 p.m. ET.
Hitter to watch: Jairo Beras (Rangers' No. 13), High Desert at San Jose (10 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Beras has been on a power surge of late for Class A Advanced High Desert, having hit five home runs in his last 10 games entering Tuesday. The 21-year-old outfielder has swung a hot bat in 32 games since the All-Star break, posting a .266/.316/.532 batting line with nine home runs. For the season, Beras is hitting .249 with 17 home runs and 17 doubles through 83 games for the Mavericks.

Pitcher to watch: (A's No. 16), Nashville at Round Rock (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Cotton is set to make his second start as a member of the A's after coming over from the Dodgers at the Trade Deadline along with and in the deal for and . The 24-year-old right-hander picked up the win in his first turn for Triple-A Nashville on Aug. 4, when he allowed one earned run and fanned five in six innings. Cotton has yielded 18 home runs in 103 1/3 innings, resulting in a 4.70 ERA, but he's been otherwise solid, posting a 1.15 WHIP with 124 strikeouts and 33 walks in that span.

Duel of the day: (Braves' No. 3) vs. (D-backs' No. 27), Mississippi vs. Mobile (8 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Newcomb, No. 56 on the Top 100, set a season high with 10 strikeouts and allowed one earned run on three hits over 6 2/3 innings in his last start for Double-A Mississippi, one of his better performances in 2016. The 23-year-old left-hander has piled up 17 strikeouts against three walks across his past two turns, giving him an overall strikeout-to-walk ratio of 118-60 through 112 innings (22 starts). He enters the day with a 5-7 record, 4.26 ERA and a .238 opponents' batting average.

Taylor has yet to suffer a loss in six starts since being promoted to Double-A Mobile, during which he's posted a 1.72 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 36 2/3 innings. Before moving up to the Southern League, the 23-year-old southpaw struggled to the tune of a 5.65 ERA over 78 innings in the Class A Advanced California League, though he did record 77 strikeouts in that span.
