Pipeline preview: Reds' Reed set to start for Triple-A Louisville

June 12th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in Monday's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Willie Calhoun (Dodgers No. 15), Tulsa at Springfield (12:10 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Calhoun homered for a second straight game on Sunday, giving him five homers in his past nine games and 12 for the season. The 2015 fourth-rounder is hitting .271 with 15 doubles and 40 RBIs for Double-A Tulsa in his first full professional season.

Pitcher to watch: Cody Reed (Reds' No. 3), Louisville vs. Syracuse (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Reed is looking to get back on track after he allowed three earned runs on a season-high 10 hits in his June 8 start for Triple-A Louisville. However, the No. 60 overall prospect has pitched well this season in spite of some recent struggles, posting a 3.38 ERA in 58 2/3 innings and 58 strikeouts against 15 walks across 10 starts.

Duel of the day: Jacob Faria (Rays' No. 9) vs. Rookie Davis (Reds' No. 12), Montgomery at Pensacola (7:30 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Faria has pitched increasingly well over his last eight starts for Montgomery, during which he's lowered his ERA to 4.29 from 6.12. His walks-per-nine rate has spiked this season to a career-worst 4.29, but the 22-year-old righty has held opposing hitters to a .200 average and continues to miss his share of bats, with 79 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings.

Davis is set to make his third start for Pensacola since returning from a stint on the disabled list due to a strained groan. On the season, he's 4-1 with a 2.32 ERA in 42 2/3 innings (eight starts).
