Pipeline preview: Marquez looks to keep rolling for Yard Goats

June 28th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch:Dan Vogelbach (Cubs' No. 20), Iowa at Oklahoma City (12:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Vogelbach had a huge day at the plate on Monday as he combined to go 5-for-7 with his 15th home run, a pair of doubles and four RBIs for Triple-A Iowa in a twin bill against Oklahoma City. The 23-year-old first baseman has homered in three of his past four games for the I-Cubs, during which he's tallied nine hits and six RBIs while raising his season average from .293 to .313.
Pitcher to watch:German Marquez (Rockies' No. 12), Hartford at New Hampshire (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Marquez enters the day having struck out exactly seven hitters with one earned allowed in each of his last three starts for Double-A Hartford. Acquired from the Rays in the offseason Corey Dickerson-Jake McGee swap, Marquez, 21, has more than held his own in his first Double-A exposure, posting a 2.65 ERA with 80 strikeouts against 21 walks in 85 innings (14 starts).

Duel of the day: Adalberto Mejia (Giants' No. 10) vs. Gabriel Ynoa (Mets' No. 13), Sacramento at Las Vegas (3:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Mejia was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento in mid-June after an outstanding showing at Double-A Richmond, where he pitched to a 1.94 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .203 average while logging 65 innings (11 starts). The 23-year-old lefty continued that success by striking out eight over seven scoreless frames in his Triple-A debut, but struggled in his subsequent outing, allowing five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Ynoa set a season high with eight strikeouts and picked up the win in his most recent start for Las Vegas, giving him a 9-2 record in 15 starts. He's logged 95 1/3 innings in that span, averaging a little more than 6 1/3 innings per start.
