Bucs' No. 2 pick Lodolo doesn't sign

Left-hander appears to be bound for Texas Christian University

July 14th, 2016

PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates were unable to sign left-hander Nick Lodolo, the team's second pick in last month's Draft, before Friday's 5 p.m. ET deadline.
The 41st overall selection posted on Twitter this week that he intends to honor his commitment to Texas Christian University. Lodolo's account is protected, but a screenshot of a July 12 post included the following message: "I'm proud to officially be a Horned Frog!! Let's get back to Omaha!"
2016 Draft: Signing and bonus tracker
The Pirates picked Lodolo, a projectable prep pitcher, out of Damien (Calif.) High School in the Competitive Balance Round A. The slot value of his selection was $1,576,000.
Aside from Lodolo, Pittsburgh has signed each of its first 14 picks, including first-rounder Will Craig and 11th-round right-hander Max Kranick, who received a $300,000 bonus -- with $200,000 of that counting against the Pirates' bonus pool.
On Friday, the Pirates agreed to terms with 33rd-round pick Austin Shields, a high-ceiling right-handed pitcher from Ontario. He will receive a $205,000 bonus.
Because Lodolo didn't sign before Friday's deadline, the Pirates will receive a compensation pick -- No. 42 overall -- in next year's Draft.
