Pirates-Tigers PPD; split doubleheader Sunday
DETROIT -- For the second time in three days, the Tigers and Pirates have been postponed by rain. Saturday's scheduled matinee was called as a line of storms crossed Michigan and neared Comerica Park.
The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Sunday, with first pitches scheduled for 1:10 and 6:10 p.m. ET. Tickets for Saturday's postponed game are good for the second game, with no exchange necessary. They can also be exchanged for a similar or lesser-priced game in the next 12 months, not including Opening Day next year.
The weather was dry as game time approached Saturday, but the forecast called for rain around 2 p.m. A wind advisory was also in effect, with gusts potentially reaching 50 mph. Both teams taxed their bullpens in Friday's season opener, which was originally scheduled for Thursday before being rained out.
The Pirates will start Trevor Williams in Game 1 Sunday, followed by Chad Kuhl in the nightcap. Jameson Taillon is still on track to start Pittsburgh's home opener on Monday at PNC Park. The Tigers will start Michael Fulmer in Game 1, with left-hander Ryan Carpenter, called up as the 26th man for the doubleheader, making his big league debut in Game 2.
