#PlayersChoiceCuts: Sony virtually brings players to fans worldwide

July 20th, 2016

Baseball might be America's pastime, but Sony Interactive Entertainment gives fans around the globe a video game that puts players right in their living rooms.
Sony, with headquarters in Tokyo and San Mateo, California, produces the popular The Show video game franchise for PlayStation. The Show brings players to life with crystal-clear imagery and lifelike depictions that show off their skills and personalities.
Johnny Cueto's unique pitching motion, David Ortiz's classic home run celebration and Adrian Gonzalez and Justin Turner's "selfie" pose are now found both on the field and on the PlayStation screen.
You can judge The Show by its cover, too, but take note of where you're standing! North American baseball fans see Josh Donaldson as the face of The Show, while fans in Korea and Taiwan see Jung-ho Kang and Wei-Yin Chen, respectively, on the covers of versions sold in their countries.
Paying meticulous attention to the minor details, of course, is one of the characteristics that distinguish Sony's efforts. The likenesses and the mannerisms are uncanny.
Chicago Cubs All-Star first baseman and Sony ambassador Anthony Rizzo even provided insight to Sony's development team to make the game as realistic as possible.
"It's amazing what they can do," Rizzo said to Fortune, "especially with MLB The Show 16, how realistic it is with every detail."
Sony's The Show even has its own online community -- The Show Nation -- where fans can unite to discuss the players in forums or compete with each other in weekly challenges.
An MLBPA licensee since 1993, Sony has evolved along with the players and the game. With a state-of-the-art development studio located in San Diego, Sony is getting an even closer look at the players, a sure way to enhance the fan experience.
So grab a controller, set your lineup and welcome to The Show.
