SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants and right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle (rhymes with rally) have agreed to terms on a one-year Major League contract.
Mahle, 31, owned a career-best 2.18 ERA (21er, 86.2ip) and 1.13 WHIP in 16 starts with Texas in 2025. He posted a 6-4 record while also setting career-bests in opponents’ batting average against (.218), OPS against (.593), and home runs per nine innings (0.52) (min. 10 starts).
The right-hander was named the Rangers Player of the Month for March/April after going 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in six starts through April and led the AL in ERA, opponents’ OPS (.465), and slugging (.211) in the first month of the season. He began his 2025 campaign by tossing 40.2 homerless innings, marking the longest homerless streak to start the season among any starter in the Majors, and permitted just five home runs in 86.2 innings all year. Mahle continued his hot start as he sported a 5-1 record with a 1.47 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP over his first 10 starts. He was placed on the Injured List with right shoulder fatigue from June 12 to Sept. 18. Following his return from the IL, he made two starts, allowing one earned run over 9.2 innings (0.93 ERA).
Originally a seventh-round draft selection by the Reds in 2013 out of Westminster (CA) High School, Mahle has pitched in 142 games (141 starts) over parts of nine seasons in the Majors for Cincinnati (2017-2022), Minnesota (2022-23), and Texas (2024-25). In those 142 games, the righty has posted a 39-46 record with a 4.07 ERA and 753 strikeouts (9.22 K/9.0ip). Since the 2020 season, Mahle is 28-23 with a 3.61 ERA (190er, 473.1ip) in 90 games (89 starts).
