April 11th, 2023

The Cincinnati Reds are joining with all of Major League Baseball to commemorate Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson breaking Baseball’s color barrier with events at Great American Ball Park and in the community.

April 15, 2023, marks the 76th anniversary of Robinson’s Major League Baseball debut, accelerating the necessary changes to come for the sport and the country. Since 2004, MLB has honored this date across the league to salute the enduring impact of this moment on Baseball and American society.

The Reds host the Philadelphia Phillies on April 15 (4:10 p.m.) and will honor Jackie’s legacy by celebrating his life, values and accomplishments during pregame ceremonies and throughout the game, including:

• All players, managers and coaches will wear Nike “Dodger Blue ‘42’” jerseys to honor Robinson’s historic debut, and to continue the unified, league-wide recognition of Jackie Robinson Day. Additional uniform elements include #42 batting practice tees, cap patches and socks.

• Chuck Harmon, Jr. will serve as the Honorary Captain of the game. Chuck Jr. is the son of Chuck Harmon, who became the first African American player for the Reds in 1954.

• Members of the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio’s “29th Class of Glorifying The Lions” honorees including Stephen L. Hightower, Angelita M. Jones, Camille Jones and Peg Moertl will be recognized during pregame ceremonies.

• Jackie Robinson Day messaging and videoboard graphics will be featured during the game.

• Fans in attendance will receive a Jackie Robinson Baseball Card, presented by LifeCenter, while supplies last.

LifeCenter will be operating an on-site donor registry in the First Star Fan Zone. Fans can register to be an organ donor and learn about LifeCenter’s commitment to amplifying the message that the African American family is affected most by diabetes and kidney disease. African Americans make up the largest group of minorities in need of organ transplants.
