Prince Fielder's son is hitting bombs

Will a third-generation Fielder make the pros?

February 19th, 2021

Cecil Fielder began his big league career 36 years ago in 1985. He came up and almost immediately started hitting huge dingers -- knocking out a league-leading 51 in 1990. This one cleared the roof.

Fielder had a son, Prince, who routinely took BP with the Tigers as a kid and was reaching the upper deck at Tiger Stadium as a 12-year-old. The future looked bright, and it ended up being very bright for Prince: he hit 319 homers in a 12-year, injury-shortened career that began in 2005 -- 20 years after Cecil's debut. Most of them were moonshots, just like his dad.

And now, in 2021, there's a third-generation Fielder hitting homers.

16-year-old Jadyn, son of Prince, hit a monster shot in a video filmed by his dad on Friday. It was an upper-cut swing reminiscent of Prince and it included a bat flip along with one of the slowest trots you'll see (you can hear Prince say "he's got a slow trot too"). We clocked the trip around the bases at 29 seconds. It's not quite Juan Francisco territory, but he's young. It can only get better.

Maybe we'll see another Fielder in MLB 20 years after his dad's debut. Again.
