Pulaski loses close contest to Princeton
The Pulaski River Turtles kept the game close the entire night, but the Princeton WhistlePigs pulled away in the top of the ninth to win, 9-8. This completes the sweep for Princeton as they stay undefeated and improved to 6-0 on the season while Pulaski fell to 2-6.
Princeton struck first with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. That didn't stop Pulaski from coming back with a strong bottom of the first thanks to a pair of two-RBI doubles by Conner Gore and Garrett Rice that would make the game, 5-1.
The WhistlePigs struck back with a two-RBI double off the bat of Cameron Uselton. Trailing 5-4, Princeton hit a home run to knot the game at five. The River Turtles broke that tie quickly in the bottom of the third with an RBI double by Ryan Johnson and an RBI single by Garrett Rice to make the score, 7-5.
Strong pitching performances by Pulaski's Zach Hise and Princeton's Taylor Catton kept the score the same through the fourth and fifth, until Princeton scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take back the lead and make it 8-7. Pulaski tied it back up in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single by Jackson Beaman. A fielder's choice in the top of the ninth drove in a single run and that would end up being the game-winner as Pulaski could not find a way to fight back.
The River Turtles hope to bounce back Saturday as they head into a weekend series against the Burlington Sock Puppets.
