Laureano hurt in 2nd game back from injured list

OAKLAND -- , who just returned from a right shin issue on Friday, left Saturday night's 10-2 win vs. the Tigers with a right leg cramp.

Laureano was limping out of the box before gingerly arriving to second base after belting a leadoff double against Tigers reliever Matt Hall in the bottom of the sixth inning at the Coliseum. A’s manager Bob Melvin and a member of the training staff emerged from the dugout to check on Laureano before removing him from the game in favor of pinch-runner Chad Pinder.

Melvin’s initial reaction as he ran out to check on Laureano was one of fear, but he was more optimistic about the outfielder’s status after the game.

“His right whole leg kind of fatigued,” Melvin said. “We don’t think it was the same thing that was going on before.”

Laureano played in his first game since July 28 on Friday, going 0-for-4. He was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI when he left Saturday. He’ll get a planned day off for Sunday’s series finale and the A’s remain hopeful he can return Monday for the start of a four-game series in Houston.

“I’m not as concerned as I was at first. You’re holding you’re breath when you go out there,” Melvin said. “He’ll get tomorrow off and hopefully all this clears up and he’ll be ready to play after that.”

“He’s had a hell of a year when he’s been out there,” A’s first baseman Matt Olson said. “It was a tough rehab process for him. I haven’t really spoken to him that much, so I don’t know if it’s the same thing or what it might be. We’re all hoping the best for him. He’s clearly a big part of our team and one of the better center fielders with an incredible bat. We hope that he’s healthy and have him back as soon as possible.”
