The White Sox and Rangers hooked up on a trade Thursday that sent right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo to Chicago in exchange for Minor League right-hander Matt Ball.
Ranaudo, 26, was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte upon completion of the trade. The 6-foot-7, 240-pounder had been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday after allowing seven runs in 3 2/3 innings over two appearances for Texas this season.
The 39th overall pick by the Red Sox out of Louisiana State University in the 2010 Draft, Ranaudo was acquired by Texas from Boston on January 27, 2015. He has 13 appearances, nine as a starter, over parts of three Major League seasons with Boston and Texas, going 5-4 with a 6.33 ERA.
Ball, 21, was an 11th-round pick of the White Sox in 2013 and is in his fourth professional season. This season, he has gone 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 relief appearances covering 16 innings for Class A Kannapolis in the South Atlantic League. He has been assigned to the Rangers' Hickory affiliate in the South Atlantic League.
The White Sox also announced they have optioned right-hander Scott Carroll to Triple-A Charlotte. The White Sox will have a corresponding roster move Friday prior to the opener of their three-game set at Yankee Stadium.
