Rangers clinch home-field advantage through playoffs

October 1st, 2016

With a win 3-1 win over the Rays on Friday, the Rangers clinched the No. 1 seed in the American League and will play the winner of Tuesday's AL Wild Card Game in the AL Division Series.
The Rangers' victory also means the Red Sox and Indians will meet in the other ALDS matchup. Boston currently has a half-game lead on Cleveland for home-field advantage and owns the tiebreaker should they finish with the same record.
Texas now has home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, including the World Series, because the AL won the All-Star Game in July.
Even if the Rangers lost their remaining two games and Boston or Cleveland were to catch them in the standings, they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over both clubs, guaranteeing Texas the top seed.
The Rangers are 53-26 at Globe Life Park this season with two home games remaining.
